Discovering Branch: A Historic Spot
- Branch is a small, unincorporated community. This means it's not an official town or city with its own local government. It sits right on the border between Mason County and Lake County. You can find it along US 10.
Branch was started around 1873 by Benjamin F. Barnett. He built a hotel for lumber workers. Later, the Pere Marquette Railway took over the hotel and made it a train station. Barnett also became the first postmaster for Branch in 1876. The community got its name from the nearby north branch of the Pere Marquette River.
