About Swissveg
Swissveg is a non-profit group. Its main office is in Winterthur, Switzerland. The president of Swissveg is Renato Pichler.
This organization is the largest group in Switzerland for people who are vegetarian or vegan. They help spread information and support these lifestyles.
Swissveg's History
Swissveg was started on August 8, 1993. It began in a place called Sennwald. At first, it was known as the Swiss Association for Vegetarianism.
On March 3, 2014, the group changed its name to Swissveg. Swissveg is an active member of the EVU. It is also part of the International Vegetarian Union. They also work with the ProVeg group in Germany.
The V-Label
Swissveg helped create the V-Label with the EVU. This label helps people know if a product is vegetarian or vegan. Swissveg checks which products and services can use this label in Switzerland.
You can find products with the V-Label in many big grocery stores in Switzerland. These include Migros, Coop (Switzerland), and Lidl. About 350 companies in Switzerland use the V-Label on their products.
Events and Activities
Swissveg organizes many events each year. These often include vegetarian and vegan festivals.
Veganmania Festivals
The Veganmania festivals have been happening since 2011. These are big events where people can try vegan food and learn more. The Veganmania in Aarau in 2016 had 5,000 visitors. This made it the biggest vegan festival in Switzerland at that time.
Before 2016, the festivals were held in Winterthur. But they moved to Aarau because they needed more space for all the people who wanted to come. In Gossau, St. Gallen, the first Veganmania was held in 2017. It had 60 different stands.
Special Days
Swissveg also supports several special days related to vegetarian and vegan eating.
