Syracuse is a small town located in Kosciusko County, Indiana, in the United States. It's part of Turkey Creek Township. In 2020, about 3,079 people lived here. Syracuse is famous for its beautiful lakes, especially Lake Syracuse and the much bigger Lake Wawasee. Many other lakes are also found nearby. The National Weather Service has an office close to Syracuse, which helps forecast weather for parts of Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.

History of Syracuse
The town of Syracuse was first planned out in 1837. It was probably named after the city of Syracuse, New York. The post office in Syracuse started operating in the same year, 1837.
Geography and Lakes
Syracuse covers a total area of about 2.16 square miles (5.59 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.79 square miles (4.64 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.37 square miles (0.96 square kilometers), is water. This water area includes parts of the lakes that are so important to the town.
Education in Syracuse
Syracuse is the main office for the Wawasee School Corporation. This school system teaches students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. The main offices, Wawasee High School, Syracuse Elementary, and Wawasee Middle School are all located here. Other schools in the same system are in the nearby towns of Milford and North Webster.
The town also has a public library called the Syracuse-Turkey Creek Township Public Library. It's a great place for everyone to borrow books and learn new things.

Syracuse Population in 2010
In 2010, there were 2,810 people living in Syracuse. These people lived in 1,158 households, and 729 of these were families. The town had about 1,570 people per square mile.
Most of the people living in Syracuse were White (95.7%). There were also smaller groups of African American, Native American, and Asian residents. About 5.2% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
About one-third of the households (31.8%) had children under 18 living with them. Many households (42.6%) were married couples. About 30.1% of all households had only one person living there. The average age of people in Syracuse was 37.4 years old. About 25.1% of residents were under 18, and 13.1% were 65 or older. The population was almost evenly split between males (50.4%) and females (49.6%).
