T. N. Gopakumar (born 1957, died January 30, 2016) was a well-known Indian journalist. He was the main news editor for Asianet News. Gopakumar also produced and hosted a popular TV show called Kannadi on the Asianet channel.

T. N. Gopakumar was born in 1957 in a place called Suchindram. His parents were P. Neelakanda Sharma and L. Thankamma. He had two siblings, T. N. Vijayam and T. N. Sreekumar. He was married to Heather Gopakumar. They had two daughters named Gayathri and Kaveri.

Gopakumar's Career Journey

Gopakumar started his career as a journalist with Indian Express. He also worked at other news places like Mathrubhumi, News Time, The Statesman, and The Independent. Later, he worked with the BBC. He was then asked to lead the news section at the new Asianet television channel.

Writing and Film Work

Gopakumar also contributed to Malayalam writing and films. He wrote many articles and columns for magazines. He also wrote more than fourteen books. Some of his famous books include VOLgA tharam_gangngaL, AkampaTi sarppangngal, and shudran.

He received many awards for his work. In 1998, he won an award for his autobiography shucheendram rEkhakaL. In 2011, he won an award for the best travelogue in Malayalam for vOLgA tharam_gangngaL. Both awards were from the Kerala Sahitya Akademy. He also received the Mahakavi Pandalam Kerala Varma Media Award and the FCCJ Asian Journalist Award from Tokyo.

Gopakumar also directed a film called Jeevan Masai. He also directed a notable TV series called vErukaL for Doordarshan.

His Final Days

T. N. Gopakumar passed away on January 30, 2016. He was 58 years old. He died in a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He had been battling cancer for several months. His cremation was held with full state honors. No religious customs were followed during his cremation. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
