Tajimi (多治見市, Tajimi-shi) is a city located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. As of March 1, 2020, about 110,070 people lived there in 46,580 homes. The city covers an area of about 117 square kilometers.
Tajimi is very famous for making Mino ware ceramics. These are special types of pottery, especially in the Oribe and Seto styles. Tajimi is also part of the World Health Organization’s Alliance for Healthy Cities. This means they work to make their city a healthy place for everyone.

Where is Tajimi?
Tajimi is in the southern part of Gifu Prefecture in Japan. It is right next to Aichi Prefecture. Two important rivers, the Kiso River and the Shōnai River, flow through the city.

Tajimi has hot and humid summers. Its winters are quite cold. The average temperature for the whole year is about 15.2 degrees Celsius.
The city gets a lot of rain, about 1644.3 millimeters each year. July is usually the wettest month. August is the hottest month, with temperatures around 34.1 degrees Celsius. January is the coldest, with temperatures around -1.9 degrees Celsius.
Tajimi holds a special record for Japan. On August 16, 2007, it had the highest recorded daytime temperature ever in Japan. It reached 40.9 degrees Celsius!

Tajimi's Past
The area where Tajimi is located was once part of an old province called Mino Province. During the Edo period (a long time ago in Japan), the area was directly controlled by the government, called the Tokugawa shogunate.
Tajimi officially became a town on July 1, 1889. Over the years, it grew by joining with nearby villages and towns. On August 1, 1940, Tajimi became a city. The town of Kasahara joined Tajimi on January 23, 2006.

Tajimi is well-known for its ceramics. This includes ceramic tiles and tableware like plates and bowls. Even though there's more competition from products made in other countries, Tajimi still focuses on trading and selling these beautiful ceramic items.
