Tak and the Power of Juju is a fun CGI animated TV show that aired from August 31, 2007, to January 24, 2009. It's based on the video game of the same name that came out in 2003. Each episode of the show has two short stories, each about eleven minutes long. The series was made by THQ, Avalanche Software, and Nickelodeon. It was the first CGI show directly managed by Nickelodeon Animation Studio.

Meet the Characters

Main Characters

  • Tak (voiced by Hal Sparks) – Tak is a 14-year-old apprentice shaman. He has a special magic power called Juju, given to him by magical creatures called Jujus. He uses this power to connect his world with theirs. Tak is usually smart, but sometimes his magic goes wrong! He often helps his friend Lok when Lok gets into trouble. Tak lives with his uncle, Jibolba. His mother was the Aurora Juju, and his father was from the Pupununu tribe.
  • Jeera (voiced by Kari Wahlgren) – Jeera is Tak's best friend and is the same age as him. She's a bit of a tomboy and shows she cares (or is annoyed) by playfully punching Tak. It seems like she might have a crush on Tak! Jeera is the Chief's younger daughter, and her older sister, Zaria, is next in line to be Chief.
  • Banutu Jibolba (voiced by Lloyd Sherr) – Jibolba is Tak's uncle, guardian, and teacher. He's the wise shaman of the Pupununu tribe and is 177 years old!
  • The Chief (voiced by Maurice LaMarche) – He's the leader of the Pupununu tribe and the father of Jeera and Zaria. The Chief can be a bit clumsy and forgetful, but he's kind. He often gets mad at Tak for his magic mistakes but still asks Tak to use his powers to help the village. He loves his tribe very much.
  • Lok (voiced by Patrick Warburton) – Lok is the village warrior, but he talks a bigger game than he plays! He's actually quite a coward and prefers to make up stories about his bravery (saying he saved the village instead of Tak) rather than doing dangerous things. He often talks about himself in the third person.
  • Keeko (voiced by John DiMaggio) – Keeko is a relaxed, carefree orphan who loves to daydream. He's good friends with Tak and Jeera and lives in a cave. He's good at inventing things, but his inventions don't always work!
  • Linda The Sheep – Linda is a talking, bright sheep who can walk on two legs (or sometimes all four). She's a very loyal friend to Tak and trusts him completely. Her family often makes fun of her for walking on two legs, but Tak doesn't. She loves to dance!
  • Zaria (voiced by Dannah Feinglass) – Zaria is Jeera's 18-year-old sister. She's next in line to be Chief and never lets Jeera forget it. Zaria is a bit spoiled, bossy, and loves fashion. She thinks she's the most beautiful in the tribe, but Tak and Jeera think she's just full of herself and mean.
  • Slog (voiced by Megan Cavanagh) – Slog is a very strong woman with a deep voice. She has a big crush on Lok.
  • Blod and Bleeta Oongatchaka (voiced by Greg Cipes & Moira Quirk) – These are the children of the richest family in the tribe. Blod is a bit hot-headed and likes to brag about his family's money. He likes Zaria, but she doesn't like him back. Bleeta is the opposite; she's always happy and curious about the world. She's Jeera's best girl friend.
  • Navis – Navis is Jeera's pet Gratch, a type of creature.

Magical Jujus

Jujus are very unique and magical creatures that Tak can call on when he needs help. Each Juju lives in its own special part of the Juju Realm. Here are some of the Jujus you'll meet:

  • Aurora Juju – She is Tak's mother! She made the special crystal that powers Tak's staff. She was once engaged to Darkness Juju but left him to marry Tak's father from the Pupununu tribe.
  • Belly Juju – This Juju is always hungry! His stomach acts as his mouth and controls his body because his head doesn't have a brain.
  • Big Boss Juju – A powerful fiery rock monster, he's the strongest Juju in the Juju Realm. Even other Jujus are scared of him!
  • Bug Juju – A small Juju that looks like a beetle. He can control insects and loves to write musicals about his own life.
  • Bulldrafish – This monster has three heads (a bull, a dragon, and a fish), a dragon-like body, and a fish tail. It's the pet of Judge Juju and helps her enforce the law.
  • Caged Juju – A grumpy Juju with horns who lives in a cage. He would love to eat Tak, or anyone else!
  • Darkness Juju – This Juju looks a bit like a large devil. He wanted the power of the crystal that Tak now has. He was Aurora Juju's fiancé before she left him.
  • Dinky Juju – A small Juju with powerful magic and a short temper. Even though he's an adult, many people think he's a baby because of his size.
  • Feet Juju – A pair of large, blue feet and legs that love to dance.
  • Gremlin Juju – These are small creatures with anglerfish-like faces. Some of them work as police in the Juju Realm.
  • Head Juju – A green floating head with arms and a southern accent. He lives in the Realm of Scrolls and coaches a sports team.
  • Judge Juju – A Juju that looks like corn and dresses like a judge. Even though she sounds like a man, Judge Juju is a woman.
  • Killjoy Juju – A one-eyed Juju who loves to stop parties. She is Party Juju's wife and often mistakes Tak for a girl.
  • Love Juju – A short, floating mermaid Juju who wears an inner tube and uses a snorkel like a magic wand. The Pupununu tribe holds a festival in her honor every year.
  • Mayhem Juju – A cute but mischievous little creature that Tak and Jeera once took home as a pet. It has three musical horns on its head that make sounds when it uses magic. Mayhem Juju can also disappear and reappear!
  • Party Juju (voiced by Rob Paulsen) – Also known as Dead Juju, Party Juju is a skeleton Juju who loves to start and enjoy parties. Only his wife, Killjoy Juju, can stop his party powers.
  • Phobia Juju – A floating brain Juju that helps the Pupununu tribe overcome their fears each year.
  • Psychic Juju (voiced by S. Scott Bullock) – Also known as Mind-Reader Juju, Psychic Juju is a genie-like Juju with a big head and powers to see the future. He always demands "Silence" when he's about to share his predictions.
  • Pugnacious Juju – A retired boxer Juju with three arms. He tried to help the Chief train to fight the Big Boss Juju.
  • Repulsive Juju – A gross-looking Juju who resembles a large, blobby dinosaur with holes that blow disgusting gases. He's one of the friendliest Jujus and is often seen with Tak, who is his friend.
  • Roadkill Juju – A short Juju with a peg leg who loves to be run over by vehicles called J-Runners.
  • Spider Juju – A spider Juju with a French accent who likes to eat humans! Tak once called him to get rid of Zaria.
  • Vendor Juju – An orange octopus-like Juju that can sell anything from inside its body. Tak and Jeera bought a special item from him.

Differences from the Games

The TV show is based on the video games, but there are some differences:

  • The voice actor for Tak changed from Jason Marsden in the games to Hal Sparks in the show.
  • Jibolba's voice actor also changed from John Kassir to Lloyd Sherr.
  • Patrick Warburton is the only actor who voiced Lok in both the games and the show.
  • In the show, Tak has brown hair with a middle part, but in the first game, his hair was black and in a bowl cut.
  • The name of Tak's tribe is spelled "Pupununu" in the show, but it was "Pupanunu" in the video games.
  • Some Juju names changed: Dead Juju became Party Juju, and Mind-Reader Juju became Psychic Juju.
  • Tlaloc, the main bad guy in the games, is called Traloc in the show.
  • Some characters and Jujus from the original games, like Moon Juju and Tlaloc's helpers Pins and Needles, did not appear in the TV series.
  • It's not clear if the TV show and the games are part of the same story or if they are separate.
