Dannah Phirman (born Feinglass) is an American actress, comedian, and writer. She is well-known for her voice work in popular animated TV shows. Kids often recognize her as the voice of Becky Botsford, who is also the superheroine WordGirl, on the PBS Kids series WordGirl. She also voiced Penny on the Nickelodeon animated show The Mighty B!. Dannah Phirman has also appeared in live-action shows and co-created the comedy series The Hotwives.
Early Life and Comedy Career
Dannah Phirman studied theater at SUNY Geneseo and graduated in 1997. After college, she moved to New York City in 1998. There, she became involved with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, a famous place for improv and sketch comedy. She was part of an improv group called Respecto Montalban.
Phirman also teaches others how to write sketch comedy and perform improv. She has performed in many comedy shows. One show, Eye Candy, went to a big comedy festival in 2002. Another show, Special Delivery, was a funny parody of a British children's show. She and her comedy partner, Paul Scheer, won an award in 2004 for their show Automatic Vaudeville.
Acting Roles
Dannah Phirman has had many exciting acting roles. From 2000 to 2001, she was a cast member on the TV show MADtv. On that show, she played many different characters.
She is especially famous for her voice acting. She voiced the main character, WordGirl and her alter ego, Becky Botsford, in the PBS Kids animated series WordGirl. She also voiced Penny, the sidekick to Bessie Higgenbottom, in Nickelodeon's The Mighty B!. Another voice role was Zaria on the Nickelodeon series Tak and the Power of Juju. Phirman has also lent her voice to video games like Mass Effect and White Knight Chronicles: International Edition.
Writing Projects
Besides acting, Dannah Phirman is also a talented writer. She has written episodes for WordGirl and The Mighty B!. She also co-wrote the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 with her writing partner, Danielle Schneider.
Phirman and Schneider created a comedy series for Hulu called The Hotwives. This show makes fun of reality TV shows. They also worked as writers on the NBC sitcoms Marry Me and Telenovela. In 2017, they were writers and producers for the TV shows It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I'm Sorry.
