Takashi Fukunishi (福西 崇史, Fukunishi Takashi, born September 1, 1976) is a Japanese former professional footballer. He was born on September 1, 1976, in Niihama, Japan. Fukunishi played as a midfielder and was known for his strong defense. He also played for the Japan national team.

Playing Career: Takashi Fukunishi's Football Journey
Club Success: Júbilo Iwata and Beyond
Takashi Fukunishi started his professional football career in 1995. After finishing high school, he joined Júbilo Iwata. He quickly became a key player for the team. He often played as a defensive midfielder, working alongside famous players like Dunga.
Júbilo Iwata had a "golden era" with Fukunishi on the team. They won the J1 League championship three times: in 1997, 1999, and 2002. The club also won the 1998 J.League Cup and the 2003 Emperor's Cup.
In Asia, Júbilo Iwata also did very well. They won the 1998–99 Asian Club Championship (now called the AFC Champions League). They also finished second in the 1999–00 and 2000–01 Asian Club Championship tournaments.
After many successful years with Júbilo Iwata, Fukunishi moved to FC Tokyo in 2007. He played there for one season. In 2008, he joined Tokyo Verdy before ending his playing career.
International Career: Representing Japan
Takashi Fukunishi first played for the Japan national team in June 1999. His first game was against Peru at the 1999 Copa América tournament.
He was part of the Japanese squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He played for five minutes as a substitute in a match against Russia. After the 2002 World Cup, Fukunishi became a regular player for Japan, starting from 2004.
He played in all six matches at the 2004 AFC Asian Cup. He even scored two goals in that tournament, including Japan's first goal in the final game. Japan won the Asian Cup that year. Fukunishi also played in the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He played a total of 64 games for Japan and scored 7 goals before he retired from international football in 2006.
