Takashi Mizunuma (born May 28, 1960) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He also works as a football commentator. His son, Kota Mizunuma, is also a professional footballer.

Club Career: Playing for Nissan Motors and Yokohama Marinos

Mizunuma was born in Saitama, Japan. After finishing university, he joined a football club called Nissan Motors in 1983. This club later became known as Yokohama Marinos.

Early Success with Nissan Motors

With Nissan Motors, Mizunuma quickly found success. The team won the Emperor's Cup in 1983 and again in 1985. From 1988 to 1990, his team was incredibly strong. They won Japan's three biggest football titles two years in a row. These titles were the Japan Soccer League, the JSL Cup, and the Emperor's Cup.

Continued Wins and Retirement

In the early 1990s, the club kept winning. They won the JSL Cup in 1990 and the Emperor's Cup in both 1991 and 1992. They also won the Asian Cup Winners' Cup twice, in 1991–92 and 1992–93. Mizunuma played his last game in 1995 and then retired from playing professional football.

National Team Career: Representing Japan

Takashi Mizunuma also played for Japan's national football teams.

Playing for Japan's Under-20 Team

In August 1979, while still a university student, Mizunuma was chosen for the Japan U-20 national team. He played in the 1979 FIFA World Youth Championship. He played in all three matches and scored one goal against Mexico. This was the only goal Japan scored in that championship.

Playing for the Senior Japan National Team

In April 1984, Mizunuma joined the Japan national team. He made his first appearance on April 18, playing against Malaysia. He continued to play for Japan in important matches. These included qualifications for the FIFA World Cup in 1986 and 1990, and the Summer Olympics in 1984 and 1988. He played 32 games for Japan and scored 7 goals before 1989.

Coaching Career: Leading Yokohama F. Marinos

After his playing career, Mizunuma became a football coach.

Assistant Coach and Manager Role

In 2006, Mizunuma became an assistant coach for his former club, Yokohama F. Marinos. In August of that year, he took over as the main manager for the rest of the season. He helped the team avoid being moved down to a lower league. In 2007, he went back to being an assistant coach. He left the club at the end of 2007.

Other Coaching and Media Roles

After leaving Yokohama F. Marinos, Mizunuma continued to be involved in football. He coached at Hosei University, his old university, from 2003 to 2005. He also became a football commentator for various TV and radio shows. He wrote columns about football for newspapers and online sports magazines. In 2008, he returned to coach at Hosei University. In 2010, he became a technical advisor for Tokyo 23 FC.
