Takeo Hoshi (Japanese 星 岳雄, Hoshi Takeo) is an important economist from Japan. An economist is a person who studies how countries and people make, spend, and save money. Mr. Hoshi works as a senior researcher at Stanford University in the United States. He is very knowledgeable about how banks are managed and how the financial system works in Japan.
In 2005, he received a special award called the Nakahara Prize from the Japanese Economic Association. This award is given to economists who have done excellent research. He has also worked with many research groups and helped create the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research.
His School Days
- In 1983, Takeo Hoshi graduated from the University of Tokyo in Japan.
- In 1988, he earned his Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. A Ph.D. is a very high university degree.

Takeo Hoshi has spent many years teaching and doing research at different universities and institutions.

- From 1988 to 2012, he was a professor at the University of California, San Diego. He started as an assistant professor and later became a full professor.
- Since 2012, he has been a professor at Stanford University.

- From 1998, he worked as a researcher at the Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies (IMES) at the Bank of Japan.
- Since 2003, he has been a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
- He also helped start the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research in 2013. This group focuses on money and economic studies in Asia.
