Takumi Morikawa (森川 拓巳, Morikawa Takumi, born July 11, 1977) is a former Japanese football player. He was born in Hamamatsu, Japan, and played as a defender for several clubs during his career.

Takumi Morikawa's Football Journey

Takumi Morikawa was born on July 11, 1977. He started his football journey at Shizuoka Gakuen High School. After finishing school, he joined Kashiwa Reysol in 1996. This club played in the J1 League, which is Japan's top professional football league.

Playing as a Defender

In 1998, Takumi played many games for Kashiwa Reysol. He was often a left defender in a "three backs defense" system. This means he was one of three players at the back, helping to protect the goal. He also played as a defensive midfielder sometimes.

Moving to New Teams

In 1999, Takumi moved to Kawasaki Frontale. This team had just been promoted to the J2 League, which is the second-highest league in Japan. He became a regular player there, again playing as a left defender. Kawasaki Frontale won the J2 League championship in 1999. This meant they were promoted to the J1 League for the 2000 season!

However, in 2000, Takumi didn't play as much. Even though his team, Kawasaki Frontale, came in second place in the J.League Cup, they were moved back down to the J2 League after just one year.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2001, Takumi went on loan to Consadole Sapporo, another J1 League team. He returned to Kashiwa Reysol in 2002 but didn't get much playing time.

In 2003, he joined Vegalta Sendai. This club was relegated to the J2 League in 2004, but Takumi became a regular player there from 2004 onwards.

His last move was to Rosso Kumamoto in 2006. This team was in the Japan Football League, a lower division. He played regularly in 2006. However, injuries in 2007 limited his playing time. Takumi Morikawa decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2007 season.
