The Story of Talking Rock
Talking Rock began in the early 1880s. This happened when a railroad line was built to reach the area. The town gets its name from a nearby stream called Talking Rock Creek. In 1883, the Georgia General Assembly officially made Talking Rock a town.

Talking Rock is located in the state of Georgia. You can find it at these coordinates: 34°30′34″N 84°30′19″W / 34.50944°N 84.50528°W.
Roads and Travel
Georgia State Route 136 is the main road that goes through the town. If you drive east on this road for about 30 miles (48 km), you will reach Dawsonville. Going west for 31 miles (50 km) will take you to Resaca.
Other important roads, State Route 5 and State Route 515, pass west of the town. These are four-lane highways. They lead north about 15 miles (24 km) to Ellijay. If you go southeast for 6 miles (10 km), you will get to Jasper, which is the main city in Pickens County. The big city of Atlanta is about 66 miles (106 km) south of Talking Rock.
