Tamagotchi! (たまごっち!) is a fun Japanese anime series from 2009. It's based on the popular Tamagotchi digital pets, which were created by Bandai and WiZ. The show was directed by Jōji Shimura and written by Aya Matsui. It first aired in Japan on TV Tokyo from October 12, 2009, to September 3, 2012, and had seven seasons!

This series was the third Tamagotchi anime ever made. It followed the movie Tamagotchi: Happiest Story in the Universe!. After Tamagotchi! finished, it got three more anime sequels, two manga comics, and ten light novels (which are like short books). Even though some episodes were dubbed in English, the full show was never released outside of Japan. The series ended in March 2015.

Story Arcs: Adventures in Tamagotchi World

The Tamagotchi! anime is split into three main story parts, called "chapters." Each chapter has its own exciting adventures and characters.

Tamagotchi Town Chapter

This is the first big part of the series, covering episodes 1 to 143. It has three smaller stories:

  • Lovely Tama-Friends Arc: This part focuses on Lovelitchi and her secret life as a famous idol named Lovelin.
  • Happy Harmony Arc: This story is all about the friendship that grows between Lovelitchi and another character, Meloditchi.
  • Collecting Tama Hearts Arc: This arc explores a special legend about magical "Tama Hearts."

Dream Town Chapter

This is the second chapter, from episodes 144 to 221. It includes two main stories:

  • Yume Kira Arc (from Tamagotchi! Yume Kira Dream): This part follows Yumemitchi and Kiraritchi as they chase their dream of becoming famous idols.
  • Dreambakutchi Arc (from Tamagotchi! Miracle Friends): This story is about Miraitchi and Clulutchi, who want to get back to their own time in the future.

Tamagottsun Chapter

This third chapter runs from episodes 222 to 271. It brings together characters from all the past series. Two new characters, Neenetchi and Orenetchi, also join the fun. This chapter is mostly about how friends from different towns meet and interact.

Plot: Journeys of Friendship and Dreams

The Tamagotchi! anime tells many stories about friendship, dreams, and adventure.

Tamagotchi! (First Series)

After the movie Tamagotchi: Happiest Story in the Universe!, Mametchi, Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, and their friends live their everyday lives. A famous idol named Lovelin comes to Tamagotchi Town. The next day, a shy new girl named Lovelitchi joins Mametchi's class. What her classmates don't know is that Lovelitchi is actually Lovelin! She wants to keep her idol identity a secret because of bad experiences at old schools.

Mametchi tells Lovelitchi he sees her as a "Tama-Friend." This makes her nervous because Tama-Friends are always honest. On Mametchi's birthday, Lovelitchi finally tells everyone she is Lovelin. She worries her new friendships will end, but her friends quickly forgive her.

Life continues until Mametchi, Memetchi, and Kuchipatchi learn about "The Kuchipatchi of Truth." This legend causes many funny events, like being sent back in time. Lovelitchi's cell phone, Telelin, even comes to life!

Soon after, a talented violinist named Melodytchi moves to town. Lovelitchi quickly becomes her friend, and they perform together as an idol and violinist duo. Then, a cheerful fashion designer named Moriritchi moves in and becomes friends with everyone, especially Lovelitchi and Melodytchi.

Later, a human girl named Tomomi arrives on Tamagotchi Planet by accident. Around this time, a new problem appears: the legend of the Tama-Hearts. These special hearts are floating around, and if they aren't found, Tamagotchi Planet will face a terrible curse. Mametchi creates "Tama-Profies" to store the hearts. He gives them to Lovelitchi and Melodytchi.

A mysterious Tamagotchi named Kizunatchi appears from the devices and helps with the search. After a while, Tomomi returns to Earth. A new Tamagotchi girl, Himespetchi, who has a big crush on Mametchi, arrives and also helps find the hearts.

All the Tama-Hearts are found, but then citizens start turning into eggs! This is the start of the curse. The Tamagotchis must return the hearts to special pillars on Heart Island. They make it just in time. The sky darkens, making them worried. Mametchi and his friends wish for the planet to be okay and the curse to stop. Kizunatchi changes form and ends the egg curse. Everyone turns back to normal.

After a sad goodbye to Kizunatchi, everything returns to normal. Ms. Perfect tells Mametchi, Memetchi, and Kuchipatchi that they won the Robotic Soccer Tournament. As a prize, they will move to Dream Town! Everyone is surprised, especially Himespetchi, who is sad that Mametchi is leaving.

Tamagotchi! Yume Kira Dream

After Ms. Perfect's announcement, Mametchi, Memetchi, and Kuchipatchi fly to Dream Town. The principal of Dream School gives them places to stay. Kuchipatchi stays at a fancy restaurant, and Memetchi stays at a beautiful salon. Mametchi, however, stays in a garage with an older Tamagotchi named Ikaritchi, who isn't very nice to him.

Meanwhile, Yumemitchi, the daughter of a rich family, meets her best friend, Kiraritchi. They both dream of becoming famous idols, inspired by a duo called D2. After helping a lion at a circus, a fortune-telling Tamagotchi gives them magical "Yume Kira Bags." They must use these bags carefully and keep them a secret.

Soon, Himespetchi returns to Dream Town to be with Mametchi and fulfill her dream of marrying him. The Yume Kira Bags help Yumemitchi and Kiraritchi use disguises to help other Tamagotchis. One Christmas, a Tamagotchi named Yumecantchi appears from the bags after Yumemitchi wishes for a pet.

Mametchi eventually gets tired of Ikaritchi's unkindness and runs away. The next day, a friendly pianist named Pianitchi comes to Dream Town to find her mother, who runs Music Cafe. Pianitchi becomes friends with Mametchi and helps him change Ikaritchi's behavior. Ikaritchi remembers a happy childhood memory and becomes kind to Mametchi. He then leaves Dream Town, and Mametchi moves into Music Cafe with Pianitchi.

Yumemitchi, Kiraritchi, Memetchi, Pianitchi, and Himespetchi form a band called the Kira Kira Girls. After a big performance, Himespetchi has to leave because her parents ask her to. A talkative makeup artist named Coffretchi joins the Kira Kira Girls.

Later, Yumemitchi and Kiraritchi use their Yume Kira Bags often. A Tamagotchi named Nandetchi discovers their secret identities and tries to show photos to the school. After they talk, Nandetchi tears up the photos. Yumemitchi and Kiraritchi then realize it's time to return the Yume Kira Bags and Yumecantchi to the fortune teller. Soon after, Yumemitchi and Kiraritchi leave Dream Town to study idol skills in Melody Land.

Tamagotchi! Miracle Friends

After Yumemitchi and Kiraritchi leave, a new story begins about time travel. Twin sisters, Miraitchi and Clulutchi, live in Dream Town of the future. Miraitchi is a bit sarcastic, while Clulutchi is more serious. One day, a mysterious person called X-Kamen releases eight magical "Dreambakutchis." The twins' father, Doctor Future, tells them to get the Dreambakutchis back.

Miraitchi and Clulutchi use "pocket designers" to get special outfits. Miraitchi gets wings, and Clulutchi gets a hoverboard. Miraitchi loves flying, but Clulutchi is scared. They manage to get most of the Dreambakutchis. However, Purplebakutchi causes their living watch, Watchlin, to break and send everyone back in time.

In the past, Mametchi, Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, Pianitchi, and Coffretchi are doing homework. That evening, the hungry twins go to Music Cafe and are welcomed by Mametchi and Pianitchi. Miraitchi and Clulutchi ask Mametchi and his friends to help them find the Dreambakutchis so they can go home. All five Tamagotchis agree.

X-Kamen is still a problem in the past. Miraitchi and Clulutchi go to Dream School, where a mysterious boy named Smartotchi also attends. Pianitchi likes Smartotchi because he plays the piano well. The Tamagotchis don't know that Smartotchi is actually X-Kamen in disguise!

Miraitchi and Clulutchi also want to be fashion designers. They stay with Madamtchi, who owns a miracle shop. Smartotchi eventually tells Miraitchi, Clulutchi, and their friends that he is X-Kamen. He then becomes their friend. Later, a cheerful girl named Candy Paku Paku, a friend of the twins, also travels to the past and helps find the Dreambakutchis. After all eight are found, Miraitchi, Clulutchi, Smartotchi, and Candy Paku Paku say goodbye to their friends and return to the future.

GO-GO Tamagotchi!

Every thousand years, the continents on Tamagotchi Planet crash together in an event called the "Tamagottssun." This causes Tamagotchi Town and Dream Town to join and become "DoriTama Town." Mametchi, Memetchi, and Kuchipatchi reunite with Lovelitchi, Melodytchi, Moriritchi, Himespetchi, Yumemitchi, Kiraritchi, and many other characters who had left. Miraitchi, Clulutchi, and Candy Paku Paku also return to the past to meet their friends again.

A huge reunion takes place as the Tamagotchis learn about the legends of the Tamagottssun. As the Tamagottssun ends, something sad happens: Tamagotchi Planet itself starts crying, and the water supply becomes very low. If the planet isn't cheered up, there will be a permanent drought, and Tamagotchis will disappear because they need water to live, just like humans.

Luckily, with a lot of hard work, Tamagotchi Planet cheers up! Tamagotchi Town and Dream Town return to their separate places, and everyone goes home. This doesn't stop Mametchi from creating his best invention ever: the DoriTama Rainbow. It's a special flying vehicle that lets Tamagotchis travel all over the planet. This means the friendships made between the two towns can last forever! The anime ends with Mametchi and his friends thanking the viewers and waving goodbye.

Why the Anime Ended

The anime officially ended in March 2015. One reason was that sales of the "Tamagotchi 4U" toy were not as good as expected. Also, Aya Matsui, the main writer for the series, left the team. Even though the anime ended, the Tamagotchi brand still makes new toys and products!

Manga Comics

A manga comic series based on the show, called GOGO♪ Tamagotchi!, was published in Shogakukan's Shojo magazine Pucchigumi from February 2010 to December 2011. It was written and drawn by Yasukon, and three books (volumes) were collected. A second manga series, GOGO Tamagotchi! Dream, also by Yasukon, was published in Pucchigumi. Only one book of this series was released.

Light Novels (Books)

There is also a series of light novels (short books with illustrations) based on the anime. They started being released on March 11, 2011, by Kadokawa. These books were written by Aya Matsui and Anna Mari. They tell stories from different parts of the anime series.

Music from the Show

The music for the anime was created by a group called Aozora. They also make music for other Bandai commercials.

The first anime series had 4 opening songs and 7 ending songs. Many different singers and groups performed these songs, including Yuria Nara, Kei Shindo, Yuko Sanpei, Nanae Kato, Dream5, and others.

The second series had two opening and two ending songs. Dream5 sang "Doremi Fasorairo," and the "Kira Kira Girls" sang "Rock 'N' Heart!".

The third series had only two songs because it was shorter. The opening was "Miracle☆Travel," and the ending was "Itsuka Itsuka."

The fourth series also had two theme songs. The opening was "GO-GO Tamagotchi!" sung by hitomi and later by Rie Kugimiya. The ending songs were "RAINBOW" by Hitomi and "Baby I" by Ariana Grande featuring Taro Hakase.
