Prainea limpato, also known as tampang susu in Malay, is a special kind of flowering plant. It is a fruit tree that belongs to the fig family. This tree naturally grows in Southeast Asia. People also call it kesusu or empatak in some local areas.

About Prainea Limpato Trees

Prainea limpato trees can grow very tall. They can reach up to 30 meters high. That's like a ten-story building! The main trunk of the tree can be 2 to 4 meters around. When you cut the tree, a white, milky sap comes out.

The leaves of this tree are quite large. They are usually 10 to 35 centimeters long. They can also be 4 to 15 centimeters wide.

The tree produces special flower clusters. These clusters are round and grow where the leaves meet the branch. After the flowers, the tree grows unique fruits. These fruits grow together in a group. Each group has about 8 to 20 oval-shaped fruits. Each fruit is about 1.5 to 2 centimeters long and 1 centimeter wide. They stick out from the center of the cluster. When the fruits are ready, they turn a bright orange color.

The fruits of the Prainea limpato tree are safe to eat. Inside, the orange part around the seed tastes a bit like bananas.

Where Does Prainea Limpato Grow?

You can find the Prainea limpato tree in a few places. It grows naturally in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo.

These trees like to grow in certain types of forests. They are found in lowland and hill forests. These forests often have many tall trees called dipterocarps. Prainea limpato also grows on rocky ground made of limestone. You can also spot them along the banks of rivers. They can grow up to 700 meters above sea level. People also plant these trees in their villages.
