Tara Fela-Durotoye, born on March 6, 1977, is a Nigerian businesswoman and lawyer who works in the beauty industry. She was one of the first people to start a bridal makeup business in Nigeria. In 1999, she created the first directory for wedding services. She also opened top-quality makeup studios and started the very first makeup school in Nigeria.
She is the founder and CEO of a company called House of Tara International. She also created popular beauty product lines like Tara Orekelewa Beauty, Inspired Perfume, and H.I.P Beauty.
By 2019, her brand, House of Tara, had grown a lot. It offered 270 different products and had 23 stores. The company also ran 14 beauty schools and had 10,000 sales representatives across Africa.
Tara Fela-Durotoye has received several important awards. In 2007, she won the Africa SMME Award and the Entrepreneur award in South Africa. In 2013, Forbes magazine recognized her as one of the "20 Young Power Women In Africa." Later, in 2020, Forbes again listed her among "Africa's 50 Most Powerful Women."
She has studied at many well-known universities and programs around the world. These include Lagos Business School, Yale University, and Harvard Kennedy School. She is also a member of the France/Nigeria Investment Club, which was started in 2018 by the French President, Emmanuel Macron.
Tara's Early Life and Education
Tara Fela-Durotoye was born in Lagos, Nigeria, at St. Nicholas Hospital. Her father, John Ejegi Sagay, worked as a commissioner for the Nigerian government. Her mother was Felicia Omaghomi. When Tara was just eight months old, her parents separated. She was then raised by her stepmother, Modupe Agnes Sagay.
She began her schooling at Command Children School in Victoria Island. Later, she attended Nigeria Navy Secondary School in Ojo, where she lived as a boarder. In her final year of high school, she was chosen to be the student leader in charge of cleanliness and student well-being. After high school, she studied Law at Lagos State University. After finishing her studies, she started her company, House of Tara International.
Tara's Family Life
Tara is married to Fela Durotoye. He is a business expert and speaker who helps companies grow. He is the chief executive officer of a company called Visible Impact. In February 2018, he announced his plan to run for president of Nigeria with the Alliance for New Nigeria political party. Tara and Fela have three sons named Mobolurin, Demilade, and Morolaoluwa.
