Tarcísio Pereira de Magalhães Sobrinho (born October 5, 1935 – died August 12, 2021), known as Tarcísio Meira, was a famous Brazilian actor. He was one of the first actors to work for Globo, a very popular TV channel in Brazil. He was born in São Paulo.
His Life and Acting Career
Tarcísio Meira first wanted to become a diplomat, which is someone who represents their country in other nations. But when that didn't work out, he decided to become an actor. He chose "Meira" as his stage name, which was his mother's family name.
He started acting on stage in 1957. His first TV role was in 1961 in a telenovela called Maria Antonieta. Telenovelas are like long TV dramas, very popular in Brazil. In 1963, he also appeared in his first movie, Casinha Pequenina. That same year, he played a main role in 2-5499 Ocupado, which was the first daily telenovela in Brazil.
Tarcísio Meira married actress Glória Menezes in 1962. Their son, Tarcísio Filho, born in 1964, also became a well-known actor. In 1968, Tarcísio and Glória joined Rede Globo as permanent actors for their telenovelas. Their first telenovela for Globo, Sangue e Areia (1968), was a big success. After that, Tarcísio and Glória often played married couples or lovers on screen. In the 1980s, Tarcísio also started acting more in movies and TV mini-series, but he continued to work in telenovelas and theater too.
His Passing
Tarcísio Meira was admitted to the hospital on August 6, 2021, because he had COVID-19. He sadly passed away from the virus on August 12, 2021, at the Hospital Albert Einstein in São Paulo.
