The Taruheru River is a river located in the Gisborne Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows mostly towards the southeast, starting from areas near the small town of Ormond. The river then makes its way through the city of Gisborne. In Gisborne, it meets another river called the Waimata River. After they join, their combined waters flow into the northern part of Poverty Bay as the Turanganui River.

About the Taruheru River

The Taruheru River is an important natural feature in the Gisborne area. It helps shape the landscape and provides water for the region. Rivers like the Taruheru are often home to different kinds of fish and plants. They also play a role in the local environment.

Where the River Flows

The journey of the Taruheru River begins near Ormond. From there, it travels southeast, slowly making its way towards the coast. As it reaches the city of Gisborne, the river becomes a familiar sight to the people living there. Its path through the city is a key part of the local geography.

Joining Other Rivers

One of the most interesting parts of the Taruheru River's journey is when it meets the Waimata River. This meeting point is in Gisborne. When two rivers join, they combine their waters and flow together as a larger river. In this case, the combined rivers then become the Turanganui River. The Turanganui River is quite short, as it quickly flows into Poverty Bay.
