The Tatasi River is a river located in Bolivia. It flows through the Potosí Department, specifically in the Sud Chichas Province. This river is a smaller stream that flows into the Tupiza River. It is part of the larger Pillku Mayu river system.
About the Tatasi River
The Tatasi River is a stream that flows into the Tupiza River. It is located in the upper part of the Pillku Mayu river basin. The river flows from the village of Tatasi. It continues its path until it joins the Tupiza River near a place called Oro Ingenio. This area is northwest of the city of Tupiza. The river mainly flows towards the southeast.
Water Safety Efforts
In 2003, a study found traces of lead in children living near the river. These children had used the river water for drinking. It was thought that the lead came from the nearby Tatasi-Portugalete Mine. This mine was digging for valuable metals like silver and lead.
To help fix this problem, COMNIBOL, which is Bolivia's state mining company, worked with the Danish environmental program (PCDSMA). They invested $654,000 to improve the water systems in the area. This project aimed to make the water safe to use within five years. The mining minister, Jorge Berindoague, officially started this important project in late 2003.
Climate Around the River
The area around the Tatasi River has a specific climate. A climate chart helps us understand the weather patterns there. It shows things like average temperatures and how much rain or snow falls each month.
