Tate Creek starts in the eastern part of Lumpkin County. This area is near Porter Springs, where two roads, State Route 60 and U.S. Route 19, separate. The creek begins inside the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.

First, the creek flows south, then turns east for about 1.75 miles. Along its path, it helps form a small body of water called Rodgers Lake. After the lake, it continues flowing east.

As it moves, Tate Creek meets another small stream called Moose Creek, which joins it from the north. After leaving the national forest, Tate Creek flows east for another 1.35 miles. Finally, it joins the Chestatee River near Frogtown Road.

What is a Watershed?

A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a single river, lake, or ocean. The area around Tate Creek is part of a larger watershed called the Tate Creek-Chestatee River sub-watershed. This area covers about 31 square miles and is located northwest of Cleveland, Georgia.

The Chestatee River flows right through the middle of this watershed. Many smaller streams and branches flow into the Chestatee River in this area. For example, five unnamed streams join the Chestatee from the east. From the west, streams like Mill Creek, Pruitt Creek, and Tate Creek, along with six other unnamed branches, flow into the river. This shows how many smaller waterways contribute to the main river.
