Tathra National Park is a special national park in Western Australia. It's about 240 kilometers (150 miles) north of Perth. You can find it between the towns of Eneabba and Carnamah. The name "Tathra" comes from a Noongar word, which means "beautiful place."

What Makes Tathra National Park Special?

This park is located in an area with lots of sand. It's surrounded by farms, but somehow, this part of the land was never cleared for growing wheat. This happened even though many other areas were cleared in the early 1900s.

Landscape and Plants

The park has shallow valleys with sandy floors. As you go up the slopes and hilltops, the ground changes to a reddish, rocky soil called laterite. The plants also change depending on the soil. You'll see low-growing heath plants here.

The park is a great example of the plants that grow in this region. It even has some unusual plants! One special plant is a type of Daviesia with large red flowers. This plant is only found in Tathra National Park. Another interesting plant is the Shaggy Dryandra (Banksia splendida), which grows well on the laterite hills.

Many visitors come to the park, especially in winter and spring, to see the amazing wildflowers. It's a beautiful place to explore nature!

History of the Park

The land for Tathra National Park was first set aside on May 23, 1969. Over the next two years, in 1970 and 1971, it was given a special classification called an "A" Class reserve. This means its purpose cannot be changed unless the government passes a new law. This helps protect the park for a long time.

The park was officially named Tathra National Park on October 8, 1971. It is managed by the Department of Environment and Conservation in Western Australia.
