Tatiana Zatulovskaya was a talented chess player. She was born in the Soviet Union in 1935. Later, she became an Israeli citizen. Tatiana was a three-time champion of the Soviet Union in women's chess. She also won the world championship for senior women chess players twice.
The international chess organization, FIDE, gave her special titles. She became a Woman International Master (WIM) in 1961. In 1976, she earned the higher title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM). Her last name can also be spelled as Zatulovskaia or Zatulovskaja.
Chess Achievements
Tatiana Zatulovskaya won the Women's Soviet Chess Championship three times. She was the best female player in the Soviet Union in 1960, 1962, and 1963.
Representing Her Country
Tatiana played for the Soviet Union in the Women's Chess Olympiad. This is a big team competition for chess players. She helped her team win the gold medal in both 1963 and 1966. She also won individual medals. In 1963, she got a silver medal. In 1966, she won an individual gold medal.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Tatiana often played in important tournaments. These tournaments, called Interzonals and Candidates Tournaments, helped decide who would play for the Women's World Chess Championship.
World Senior Champion
In 1993, Tatiana won the Women's World Senior Chess Championship. She played very well, winning 10 out of 11 games. She won this championship again in 1997.
In 2000, Tatiana moved to Israel. She then played for Israel in the 2002 Women's Chess Olympiad.
Later Life
Tatiana Zatulovskaya passed away on July 2, 2017. She was 81 years old. Besides being a chess star, she had other interesting skills. She was also a geological engineer, which means she studied rocks and the Earth. She was also a good gymnast!
