Tatsuya Yamashita (山下 達也, Yamashita Tatsuya, born November 7, 1987 in Hyōgo) is a Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a centre back, which is a defensive position in football.
Tatsuya Yamashita spent many years playing for Cerezo Osaka, a well-known football club. He played in over 220 games for them during his career.

Playing Career Highlights
Returning to Cerezo Osaka
On December 27, 2011, Yamashita was announced as a player returning to Cerezo Osaka. He had played for them before. On February 22, 2019, Yamashita scored a goal against Vissel Kobe early in the game. This was a special moment because it was the first time in the history of the J.League (Japan's top football league) that a defender scored the very first goal of the season in the opening match.
Time at Kashiwa Reysol
Yamashita joined Kashiwa Reysol on August 11, 2019. On October 2, 2020, he scored an important goal in the J.League Cup semi-final. His goal against Yokohama F. Marinos was the winning goal that sent Kashiwa Reysol to the final. However, Kashiwa Reysol lost the final match to FC Tokyo.
Third Time with Cerezo Osaka
On January 12, 2022, Yamashita made another return to Cerezo Osaka. He played in a friendly match against the famous French club Paris Saint-Germain on July 28, 2023. He came on as a substitute in the second half.
On February 20, 2024, Yamashita was chosen to be the captain for Cerezo Osaka for the 2024 season. This is a big honor in football.
Retirement from Football
On October 23, 2024, Tatsuya Yamashita announced that he would be retiring from professional football at the end of the 2024 season. His final game for Cerezo Osaka was on November 30, 2024. He came into the game in the 88th minute, replacing Ryūya Nishio. This match was also his 150th appearance in the J1 League, which is the highest division of professional football in Japan.
International Football Experience
On April 3, 2013, Yamashita was invited to a training camp for the Japan senior national team. This meant he was considered one of the best players in the country.
