Teepookana, Tasmania facts for kids
Teepookana was once a small port and a stopping place for trains in western Tasmania, Australia. It was located on the southern side of the King River. Even though it was important for a short time, especially when a railway was being built, it's now mostly a quiet historical spot.
A Busy Port and Railway Stop
Teepookana became important in the late 1800s. It served as a port while workers were building a railway line. This line connected Regatta Point to Teepookana. The port was located right between two bridges that crossed the King River.
Once the railway was finished, Teepookana became less busy. The community got smaller. However, it is still listed on maps and in information for the West Coast Wilderness Railway. This railway is a popular tourist attraction today.
Stops Along the Railway Line
The railway line that passed through Teepookana had several stops. Here are the main stations along that route:
- Queenstown (Tasmania) railway station
- Lynchford
- Rinadeena
- Dubbil Barril
- Teepookana
- Regatta Point

The plateau is only a few kilometers south of where the old Teepookana port and railway line were located.
