Tegna was once a small town, known as a municipality, located in the Locarno area of Ticino, a southern part of Switzerland. Think of a municipality like a local town or district with its own government.
On April 14, 2013, Tegna joined forces with two other nearby municipalities, Cavigliano and Verscio. Together, they formed a brand-new municipality called Terre di Pedemonte. This means Tegna is no longer a separate municipality but is now part of this larger community.
What Was Tegna?
Tegna was a municipality in the canton of Ticino. In Switzerland, a canton is like a state or a large region. Each canton has its own government and laws, but they are all part of the country of Switzerland.
Tegna was part of the Locarno district. A district is a smaller area within a canton. It helps organize different towns and villages.
Where Was Tegna Located?
Tegna was found in the beautiful southern part of Switzerland. This area is known for its stunning mountains and lakes. The official language spoken in Ticino, including Tegna, is Italian.
The town was located at an elevation of 255 meters (about 836 feet) above sea level. It covered an area of 2.89 square kilometers (about 1.12 square miles).
The Big Change: Becoming Terre di Pedemonte
In 2013, the people of Tegna, Cavigliano, and Verscio decided to merge. This means they combined their municipalities into one. This kind of merger happens when smaller towns decide to work together.
The new combined municipality was named Terre di Pedemonte. This helps the towns share resources and manage things more easily. It's like three small schools joining to become one bigger school.
Before the merger, Tegna had a population of 749 people in December 2011. Now, these residents are part of the larger Terre di Pedemonte community.
