What is TELUS Spark Science Centre?
TELUS Spark is a place designed to make learning about science exciting and easy to understand. It's not just about looking at things; it's about doing, touching, and experimenting. You can discover how the world works through interactive displays and engaging activities.
Exploring the Exhibits
The centre has many different areas, each focusing on a unique part of science. You might find exhibits about space, the human body, or even how technology shapes our lives. These exhibits are built to help you learn by trying things out yourself.
Fun for All Ages
While it's great for kids and teens, TELUS Spark is a place for everyone. Families, school groups, and even adults can find something interesting to explore. It's a fantastic spot to spend a day discovering new things.
How did TELUS Spark Begin?

The story of TELUS Spark began a long time ago, even before it was a science centre. It first opened on July 1, 1967, as the Calgary Centennial Planetarium. A planetarium is a special theatre where you can watch shows about stars and space.
From Planetarium to Science Centre
In 1983, a group called the Calgary Science Centre Society started working to create a science centre in the city. By 1987, they made a deal to turn the old planetarium into the Calgary Science Centre. This was a big step towards what TELUS Spark is today.
A New Name and Location
On April 27, 2005, the Calgary Science Centre was renamed Telus World of Science – Calgary. This happened after a large donation from a company called Telus. This support helped the centre grow even more.
The original building closed on June 27, 2011. A brand-new, much larger science centre, now called Telus Spark, opened on October 29, 2011. It's located on a huge 15-acre site in Nose Creek Valley, not far from the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. This new location allowed for even more amazing exhibits and learning spaces.
