Temperance Island is a small island located in Lake Michigan, a very large lake in the United States. It's found near a place called Waugoshance Point in Michigan. This island is part of Wilderness State Park, which means it's a protected natural area.
Where is Temperance Island?
Temperance Island is in Emmet County, within Bliss Township. It sits close to another island called Waugoshance Island. A waterway known as the Big Cut Canal separates these islands from Waugoshance Point. Together, Temperance Island and Waugoshance Island create the northern edge of Sturgeon Bay.
Around Temperance Island, the water is quite shallow in many places. These shallow areas are called shoals. They can make it tricky for boats to travel safely without getting stuck. To help guide boats, there are two important lighthouses nearby. These are the White Shoal Light and the Grays Reef Light. They shine brightly to warn ships about the shallow waters and help them find their way.
