Teoman "Teo" Alibegović (born January 11, 1967) is a former professional basketball player. He also worked as a coach and manager. Teo is famous for being the second-highest scorer ever for the senior Slovenian national basketball team. He scored 990 points during his time with the team.

Teoman Alibegović's Early Life

Teoman Alibegović was born in Zenica, which was part of Yugoslavia back then. Later, his family moved to Jesenice in Slovenia. This is where he started playing basketball. He joined the junior teams of KK Jesenice.

In 1982, he moved to KK Olimpija's youth teams. After two years, he went to Sarajevo. There, he played for KK Bosna, a top club in the Yugoslav First Basketball League.

College Basketball Career

In 1988, Alibegović moved to the United States. He started attending Oregon State University. He played college basketball for the Oregon State Beavers. After three years, he finished his studies. He earned degrees in business and communication.

Professional Basketball Journey

In 1991, the Quad City Thunder picked Teoman in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) draft. However, he did not play for them. His first professional season was with the Yakima Sun Kings in the CBA. At the end of the 1991–92 season, Teo joined the Italian club Fortitudo Bologna.

From 1993 to 1996, he played for the German team Alba Berlin. He helped them win the FIBA Korać Cup championship. This was a big achievement for the team. Before the 1996–97 season, he signed with the Turkish club Ülkerspor.

After six months in Turkey, he returned to Italy. He played for Trieste. The next season, 1997–98, he played in Spain for Cáceres CB. For the 1998–99 season, he went back to Trieste. From 1999 to 2002, he played for the Italian club Snaidero Udine. In his final year as a professional player, he played in Greece. He was with Ionikos NF.

Playing for His Country

Teoman Alibegović played for the Yugoslavia Under-18 and Under-19 national teams. These youth teams won gold medals. They won the 1986 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship and the 1987 FIBA Under-19 World Cup.

From 1991 to 2001, Alibegović was a member of the senior Slovenian national basketball team. He played in four EuroBasket tournaments. These were in 1993, 1995, 1997, and 2001. He played in 52 games for Slovenia. He scored 990 points, becoming one of their top scorers.

Coaching and Management Roles

After his playing career, Alibegović became a coach. Before the 2003–04 season, he became the head coach of Udine. In 2005, he worked as the general manager for Fortitudo Bologna.

He was the head coach of Leagea Scafati from December 2006 to November 2007. From 2008 to 2010, he was a special consultant for Udine.

Teoman Alibegović's Family

Teoman Alibegović has three sons. Their names are Mirza (born 1992), Amar (born 1995), and Denis (born 1999). All three of his sons are also basketball players.

Mirza played for Brescia in Italy. Denis played for the youth teams of Stella Azzurra Roma. Amar also played for Roman teams before going to college. He played college basketball for the St. John's Red Storm. Amar now plays professionally in Italy.

Teoman's nephew, Luka Garza, is also a well-known basketball player. Luka played for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was named a first-team All-America player in 2020. He also won the Big Ten Conference Player of the Year award. Luka Garza was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 2021 NBA draft.
