Teresa Michelle Scanlan (born February 6, 1993) is an American lawyer and former beauty pageant winner. She was named Miss Nebraska in 2010. Later, she won Miss America 2011 when she was just 17 years old. This made her the youngest Miss America since 1937.
Today, Teresa works as a business lawyer in Houston, Texas. She also serves in the Wyoming Air National Guard as a staff sergeant.

Teresa Scanlan has family roots from Ireland and Croatia. Her father is from Ireland. Her grandparents on her mother's side came to the United States from Ilovik, Croatia.
Teresa's Education and Early Life
Teresa was taught at home for most of her school years. She later attended Gering High School part-time. She finished high school early in 2010 by taking many classes. Teresa was a top student at Scottsbluff High School.
While in high school, she played the main role of Sharpay Evans in Disney's High School Musical Onstage. She also enjoyed choir, show choir, and public speaking. In 2012, she started studying at Patrick Henry College.
Hobbies and Interests
Teresa has many hobbies. She enjoys singing, acting, and dancing. She also likes playing the piano and guitar. Teresa composes her own songs and loves to bake. She is active in her local church. A unique hobby of hers is making clothes out of duct tape!
Military Service and Law Career
In 2018, Teresa Scanlan joined the Air National Guard. This is a part of the United States Air Force. She continued her studies at UC Berkeley School of Law at the same time. She is a member of the Wyoming Air National Guard. Teresa did very well in her basic military training.
In 2021, Teresa graduated from law school. She then started working as a business lawyer in Houston, Texas.

Becoming Miss Nebraska 2010
Teresa won the title of Miss Nebraska on June 5, 2010. She was crowned by the previous winner, Brittany Jeffers. Teresa's special cause, or "platform," was "Eating Disorders: A Generation at Risk."
She chose this topic because a friend struggled with an eating disorder. Teresa learned how common these issues are. She wanted to teach others about the signs and risks of eating disorders. She also wanted to show people where to find help.
Teresa's talent for the competition was playing the piano. At 17, she was the youngest Miss Nebraska ever. After winning, she took a year off school to focus on her duties as Miss Nebraska.
Winning Miss America 2011
Teresa represented Nebraska at the Miss America 2011 competition. This event took place in Las Vegas, Nevada in January 2011. Her platform for the national pageant was also "Eating Disorders: A Generation at Risk."
During the competition, Teresa won the talent part. She earned a $2,000 scholarship for her piano performance.

On September 6, 2015, Teresa married John Mocadlo. They had been engaged for eight months. John and Teresa both worked with the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Organization. In 2016, Teresa and John had a son. They later divorced that same year.
