Terry Wells' Baseball Journey
Terry Wells grew up in Kankakee, Illinois. He went to college at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. While in college, he played collegiate summer baseball. In 1984, he played for the Harwich Mariners. This team was part of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Getting Drafted
Baseball teams choose new players in a special event called a draft. Terry Wells was chosen by the Houston Astros in 1985. This was in the 8th round of the 1985 Major League Baseball Draft. He had been picked by other teams before, but he did not sign a contract with them.
Playing in the Major Leagues
Terry Wells became well-known for a trade that happened in 1990. The Houston Astros traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In return, the Astros received Franklin Stubbs. Stubbs had been a player on the Dodgers team that won the 1988 World Series. This trade happened just a few days before the 1990 baseball season began.
The year 1990 was the only season Terry Wells played in Major League Baseball. He started five games as a pitcher for the Dodgers. He had one win and two losses. His earned run average (ERA) was 7.84. A lower ERA is better for a pitcher. After the 1990 season, he was released by the Dodgers. He did not play for another Major League team after that.
