Tetsuya Enomoto (榎本 哲也, Enomoto Tetsuya, born May 2, 1983) is a Japanese former football player. He used to be a goalkeeper, which is the player who protects the goal. Today, he works as an assistant coach for goalkeepers at the Yokohama F. Marinos club in Japan's top football league, the J1 League.

Tetsuya Enomoto's Football Journey

Tetsuya Enomoto started his football journey in his hometown of Kawasaki, Japan. He joined the youth team of Yokohama F. Marinos in 2002. He made his first professional appearance in 2003. For a while, he competed with another player, Tatsuya Enomoto, for the goalkeeper spot.

Becoming a Regular Goalkeeper

After Tatsuya Enomoto left the club in 2006, Tetsuya became the main goalkeeper for Yokohama F. Marinos. However, his playing time became less from 2009, as another goalkeeper, Hiroki Iikura, started playing more. Tetsuya Enomoto became the regular goalkeeper again in 2013. But by 2015, his chances to play decreased once more, again behind Iikura.

Moving to New Teams

In 2017, Enomoto moved to Urawa Red Diamonds. There, he found it hard to get playing time because Shusaku Nishikawa was the main goalkeeper. In 2019, Enomoto joined Kataller Toyama, a club in the J3 League, which is a lower division in Japan.

Life After Playing Football

After he stopped playing football at the end of 2019, Tetsuya Enomoto began a new role. In February 2020, he became a goalkeeper coach at the Yokohama F. Marinos' Soccer School. This meant he was teaching younger players how to be good goalkeepers.

For the 2021 season, he was promoted to be the goalkeeper coach for the professional J1 League team of Yokohama F. Marinos. He continues to help the team's goalkeepers improve their skills.
