Early Life and College Football
Tevaun Smith went to Kent School in Connecticut. He finished school there in 2012. After high school, he played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He played for four seasons, which is a long time! During his college career, Tevaun played in 47 games. He caught 102 passes for a total of 1,500 yards. He also scored seven touchdowns for his team.
Professional Football Career
Playing for the Indianapolis Colts
Tevaun Smith started his professional career with the Indianapolis Colts. He signed with them on May 2, 2016. He was not chosen in the draft, so he signed as a "free agent." This means teams can sign players who were not picked during the draft.
He was later released by the team but then signed to their practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but don't usually play in games. They are ready to step in if another player gets hurt. Tevaun was moved to the main team roster on October 18, 2016. He was released again in November but rejoined the practice squad. He signed a new contract with the Colts in January 2017.
In August 2017, Tevaun was released by the Colts because of an injury. He was then placed on the injured reserve list. This list is for players who are hurt and cannot play. He was fully released from the team later that month.
Time with the Oakland Raiders

Tevaun then moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was signed to their practice squad on December 26, 2017. He signed a new contract with the Jaguars in January 2018. This contract meant he would stay with the team for the future.
In June 2018, Tevaun was released by the Jaguars due to an injury. He was placed on the injured reserve list again. He was fully released from the team in September 2018.
Playing in the Canadian Football League
Edmonton Eskimos / Elks
On February 11, 2019, Tevaun Smith signed a two-year contract with the Edmonton Eskimos. The Eskimos had actually picked him in the first round of the 2016 CFL Draft back in 2016. He was the 8th player chosen overall.
In his first season in the Canadian Football League (CFL), Tevaun played very well. He caught 55 passes and gained 632 yards. He also scored six touchdowns. He signed a contract to stay with Edmonton through the 2021 season. In 2021, Tevaun caught 27 passes for 324 yards. He was released by the Elks in May 2022 during their training camp.
Ottawa Redblacks
Just a few days later, on May 21, 2022, Tevaun signed with the Ottawa Redblacks. In his first year with Ottawa, he played in eight games. He caught 14 passes for 142 yards and scored two touchdowns. On February 2, 2023, Tevaun and the Redblacks agreed to a new one-year contract. He became a free agent again after the 2023 season.
