The Story of Texas Pete
How Texas Pete Started
Texas Pete hot sauce first appeared in 1929. It was created by Sam Garner, who ran a barbecue stand called Dixie Pig in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Customers at his stand often asked for a spicier sauce. So, the Garner family, including Sam and his three sons, made a new sauce using cayenne peppers.
Choosing the Name
When it was time to name the new hot sauce, a marketing expert suggested "Mexican Joe." This name was meant to sound like the spicy food from Mexico. However, Sam Garner wanted an American-sounding name for his product.
He thought of Texas, a state famous for its spicy food. He then combined "Texas" with "Pete," which was the nickname of his son, Harold Garner. That's how the name "Texas Pete" came to be!

Different Kinds of Texas Pete Sauce
Texas Pete hot sauce comes in bright red bottles. You can find them in different sizes, like 6, 12, and 24 ounces. The bottles have a white and yellow label with the name "Texas Pete" in red. There's also a red picture of a cowboy on the label.
The original Texas Pete sauce is fairly mild. It measures 747 on the Scoville scale, which is a way to measure how hot a pepper or sauce is. Texas Pete also makes a "Hotter Hot Sauce" that is three times spicier than the original.
Other Sauces from Texas Pete
The company also makes other kinds of hot sauces. They have a sautéed garlic hot sauce, which adds a garlicky flavor. In 2013, Texas Pete introduced a "Cha!" Sriracha sauce, which is a popular type of hot sauce.
In 2016, they released "Sabor! by Texas Pete." This is their version of a Mexican-style hot sauce.
