Markeya Cortez 'Tez' Sherard (born January 18, 1982) is a super talented American drummer. People also call him Big Tez! He's not just a drummer; he also plays bass guitar, sings, and even owns his own business. Right now, Tez is the main drummer and a backup singer for the famous musician Edwin McCain.
Tez's Early Life and Music Journey
Tez Sherard grew up in South Carolina, in a family full of musicians. He started playing music in church when he was only five years old! By the time he was ten, he was already playing the bass guitar. When he turned sixteen, Tez began traveling around the country to perform.
Tez's Amazing Music Career
Tez started his touring career with an R&B band called Still Cruzin. He played with them for eight years! After that, Tez and guitarist Shane Pruitt started their own band called Flat Front Tire. This band had a cool funk sound and toured from 1998 to 2005.
Tez has played with many famous groups and artists. Some of them include The Drifters, Clarence Frogman Henry, The Crystals, and Percy Sledge. He has also performed with Darius Rucker and Mac Arnold. Tez also plays with the Carolina Coast Band.
In 2008, Tez became the main drummer for The Edwin McCain Band. He has traveled all over the United States and to 13 other countries with them. He even went on special tours for the military, called USO and MWR tours!
Tez received a special award, an honorary Doctorate of Music degree, from the University of South Carolina. This was to celebrate his great music with the bands Plate Full of Blues and Mac Arnold.
Tez is supported by some cool music companies. These include Evans Drum Heads, Innovative Percussion, and Palmetto Custom Drums.
