Thé Tjong-Khing (Chinese: 鄭宗瓊; born August 4, 1933) is a famous artist. He draws amazing pictures for children's books. He lives and works in the Netherlands.

About Thé Tjong-Khing
Early Life and Moving to Europe
Thé Tjong-Khing was born on August 4, 1933. He grew up in Purworedjo, a town on the island of Java. At that time, Java was part of the Dutch East Indies. He came from a large Chinese Indonesian family.
When he was a kid, Thé Tjong-Khing loved reading comic strips. He especially liked the adventures of Tarzan. He went to an arts school called Seni Rupa in Bandung.
In 1956, Thé Tjong-Khing moved to the Netherlands. He started working at Toonder Studio's. He began as a volunteer, helping with drawings. Later, he became a full-time employee there.
Becoming a Children's Book Illustrator
Thé Tjong-Khing worked on many projects. He helped create comics like Oliver B. Bumble. He also drew for a magazine called Tina. He even created his own comic series, Arman & Ilva.
In 1970, he got a special request. He was asked to draw pictures for a children's book by Miep Diekmann. This was a big moment for him!
After that, he became a freelance illustrator. This means he worked for himself. He drew pictures for many different children's book writers. Some of these famous authors include Guus Kuijer, Els Pelgrom, Sylvia Vanden Heede, and Dolf Verroen.
Amazing Awards and Recognition
Thé Tjong-Khing has won many important awards for his artwork. He won the Gouden Penseel (Golden Brush) award three times! This award is given to the best illustrated children's book in the Netherlands.
In 2005, he won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs. He received this award for his unique book, Waar is de taart? (Where is the cake?). What makes this book special is that it's a picture book without any words! You follow the story just by looking at the pictures. For this same book, he also won the Zilveren Penseel (Silver Brush). He was even nominated for a German award, the Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis, in 2007.
In 2010, Thé Tjong-Khing won another big award. He received the Max Velthuijs-prijs (Max Velthuijs Prize). This prize celebrates an artist's entire career in children's book illustration.
