Company History
Since 1978, people have been able to buy shares of Thai President Foods. These shares are traded on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). This means the company is owned by many different people who buy its shares.
In 2008, Thai President Foods had 3,824 people working for them. The company set some goals for itself in 2014. They wanted to earn 20,000 million baht in total income. They also aimed to sell half of their products in Thailand and half to other countries. Before this, about 80% of their sales were in Thailand.
By 2015, Thai President Foods was the biggest instant noodle maker in Thailand. They held 53% of the market. This means they sold more than half of all instant noodles in the country.
In 2017, two companies, Thai President Foods PLC and President Rice Products, joined together. The new combined company's shares are now traded on the stock exchange. You can find them under the symbol TFMAMA. Different families and companies own parts of this new company.
The very first flavor of MAMA Noodles ever made was Tom Yum Shrimp.
Factories and Production
Thai President Foods has several factories in Thailand. These are located in Lamphun, Si Racha, Rayong, and two factories in Ratchaburi. In 2020, they planned to make even more instant noodles. Their goal was to produce eight million packages every day from their Thai factories.
Besides Thailand, Thai President Foods also has factories in other countries. You can find them in Yangon, Myanmar; Bangladesh; Cambodia; and Hungary. The factory in Hungary makes noodles for the European market. It produces "Thai Chef" and "Asia Gold" brand noodles.
The company is also building a second factory in Myanmar, in a city called Mandalay. This new factory will help them make 400,000 noodle packages each day in Myanmar. People in Myanmar eat fewer packaged noodles than people in Thailand. This means there is a lot of room for the company to grow there.
A new factory is also being built in Cambodia. It will replace their old factory. They expect to make 80,000 cases of noodles there each month. This could bring in 565 million baht in sales each year by 2020.
Company Money
In 2019, Thai President Foods earned 24.7 billion baht in total sales. This was more than the 22.9 billion baht they earned in 2018. Their profit in 2019 also went up to 5.14 billion baht.
In 2015, all instant noodle brands in Thailand sold about 15.8 billion baht worth of noodles. This was a small increase from 15.4 billion baht in 2014.
Sometimes, when the economy slows down, sales of instant noodles also slow down. This happened in 2014 and 2015 in Thailand. Even with slower sales, the company still made a good profit. In 2014, their profit was 1.7 billion baht.
MAMA noodles have always been the most popular instant noodles in Thailand. In 2019, MAMA was still number one. Other popular brands include Wai Wai and Ajinomoto's Yum Yum.
