The Aquinas Institute of Rochester is a private, Catholic school in Rochester, New York. It helps students get ready for college. The school teaches both boys and girls, following the traditions of the Basilian Fathers.
Aquinas Institute first opened its doors in 1902. It started as a school for both boys and girls, called Cathedral Business School. Later, in 1913, it became an all-boys high school named Rochester Catholic High School. In 1982, after another local girls' school closed, Aquinas became a co-educational school again. The school has been at its current location on Dewey Avenue since 1925. More than 19,000 students have graduated from Aquinas Institute over the years.
Exploring the Aquinas Campus Buildings
The main building at Aquinas Institute is very old and important. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized for its historical value.
Science and Sports Facilities
The Wegman – Napier Building is an addition to the main school building. It has modern science labs for biology and chemistry classes. This building also includes a newly updated gym. In 2007, the biology labs were improved. A large field house, about 30,000 sq ft (2,800 m2), was built in 2008.
In 2005, Aquinas built a sports stadium right on campus. It is called the Wegmans Sports Complex. This stadium was built 20 years after the school's old football stadium was taken down in 1985.
