The Bravest Knight is an American 2D animated series. It was made by Big Bad Boo Studios and was the first original kids' show on Hulu, a streaming service. The first episodes came out on June 21, 2019, and the rest on October 11, 2019.

The show was created by Daniel Errico and directed by Shabnam Rezaei. It is a fantasy and adventure story. It follows a young pumpkin farmer who becomes the "bravest knight." He tells his exciting stories to his adopted daughter, Nia.

The series is based on Daniel Errico's book, The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived. It also came from a short animated film from 2015 with the same name. The show was praised for being "groundbreaking" because it features a family with two dads, Cedric and Andrew. This made it one of the first animated shows for all ages to have a main character who is openly gay.

Justin Tranter, who is on the board of GLAAD, wrote the show's opening song. The series won an award called the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence award in kids’ programming in October 2019.

What is The Bravest Knight About?

The show is about Cedric, who used to be a pumpkin farmer. Now, he is married to Prince Andrew. Cedric tells his 10-year-old adopted daughter, Nia, how he became the "greatest knight." He shares the challenges he faced on his journey.

Cedric was often joined by his friend, Grunt, a troll. He tells these stories to help Nia, who is training to be a knight, learn from his experiences. Nia learns that being a knight means more than just fighting dragons. It's about being your "best self" and learning important life lessons.

How Was The Show Made?

Shabnam Rezaei, who started Big Bad Boo Studios, was the producer of The Bravest Knight. She said it was a "pleasure to work alongside Hulu." Rezaei also mentioned that the show teaches important life lessons. She described it as an "adventure about how to be a great knight" and how to be a good person.

Hulu officially approved the show in November 2017. Production started in early 2018. About 120 people worked on the show. Daniel Errico and Randy Rogel wrote the stories for each episode. The animation work was done in Vancouver, Canada.

Daniel Errico said he was inspired to create the character of Cedric after reading fairytales. He wanted to create characters who were complex and also happened to be gay. He noted that many networks he approached were "resistant to having an LGBTQ protagonist." However, Hulu was willing to greenlight the show.

Errico also shared that each episode has a special lesson. These lessons cover themes like self-confidence, forgiveness, and the message of "being yourself and being true to yourself." He believes it's important to give children more diverse heroes and role models.
