The Cumbraes facts for kids
The Cumbraes are a small group of islands in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. They are part of North Ayrshire today. Long ago, they were part of the traditional county of Bute.
The two main islands are Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae. These islands are separated by a wide stretch of water called The Tan. A busy shipping route, the Fairlie Roads, separates them from the Scottish mainland.
There are also some smaller islands that no one lives on. These include The Eileans, Castle Island, the Broad Islands, and Trail Isle.
The Cumbraes were known as Kumreyiar in an old Norse story. This story is called the Saga of Haakon Haakonarson.
