How the Company Started
The Georgia Fruitcake Company was started by a man named Ira S. Womble, Sr. He was from Claxton, Georgia.

After his training, Mr. Womble moved to Clearwater, Florida. This was during a tough time called the Great Depression. He managed a bakery there that was supported by the government.
While in Florida, Mr. Womble met Henry Ford, who was famous for making cars. Henry Ford helped Mr. Womble set up a bakery in Richmond Hill, Georgia. There, Mr. Womble worked on making products from soybeans.
In 1948, Mr. Womble moved back to Claxton. That is when he opened The Georgia Fruitcake Company.
