The Goose, which used to be called The Blue Goose, is a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. It serves delicious food inspired by New Mexico, the Southwestern United States, and Tex-Mex styles. You can find it in the southeast part of Portland.
What's on the Menu?
The Goose is a cozy restaurant with 52 seats. It's located where Southeast 28th Avenue meets Ankeny Street in Portland's Buckman neighborhood. The food here is a mix of New Mexican, Southwestern, and Tex-Mex flavors.
You can try many tasty dishes. Some popular choices include adobada (marinated pork) and carne asada (grilled beef). They also have chile con queso with chorizo, which is a cheesy dip with sausage.
If you like burgers, try their cheeseburger with green chiles. Other menu items include chile rellenos, enchiladas, and tacos. The restaurant also makes its own smoked meats and fresh, handmade tortillas.
For drinks, The Goose offers a variety of choices. The restaurant's inside has a cool turquoise color scheme.
The Story of The Goose
The building where The Goose is now has an interesting past. Before it became The Goose, it was a tavern called The Blue Goose. This old place served drinks and even sold eggs!
From 1990 to 2014, the building was home to a Tex-Mex restaurant named Esparza's. Then, on June 7, 2014, Kristine Craine opened the current restaurant. She used some parts of Esparza's inside, like the bar, for her new place.
Matthew Stauss was the first chef at the restaurant. At first, it was called The Blue Goose, just like the old tavern. Later, the name was changed to simply The Goose.
