The Magic of Belle Isle (also known as Once More in the UK) is a comedy-drama film from 2012. It was directed by Rob Reiner and written by Guy Thomas. About the Story
Monte Wildhorn is a famous writer of Western books. He is feeling sad and grumpy because his wife passed away six years ago. Because of this, he has lost his desire to write.
His nephew, Henry, brings Monte to a quiet lakeside cabin in Belle Isle for the summer. Henry is friends with the cabin's owner.
Soon, Monte meets the family living next door. This family includes Charlotte O'Neil, a single mom, and her three daughters. The daughters are Willow, Finn, and Flor. Willow is the oldest and always on her phone. Finn is a bit mischievous, and Flor is the youngest.
Monte quickly becomes friends with the O'Neil family. Finn asks Monte to teach her how to write. He teaches her by making up stories on the spot. This helps Finn learn new words and how to create her own tales.
Monte is invited to dinner at the O'Neils' house. Finn shows off the new words she learned from Monte. Monte starts to feel more inspired by the people around him. He even starts writing again, first a story for Flor, then more.
Later in the summer, Charlotte needs to go away for a short time. Monte helps by looking after the girls. During this time, they all become even closer. Monte shares stories about his life, including how he became a writer.
After a few months, Monte returns to Belle Isle. He sells the rights to his Western books to be made into movies. This allows him to buy the house next door to the O'Neils. The family is very happy to welcome him back.
