The Moor Quarter facts for kids
The Moor Quarter is a cool part of Sheffield city centre. It's one of twelve special areas in the city. This quarter is named after The Moor, which is a big street just for people walking. You can find The Moor Quarter between Furnival Gate, Eyre Street, St Mary's Gate, Moore Street, and Charter Row.
This area is mostly for shopping, which makes it a busy and fun place! The city's main market is now here. There are also some offices, like at Charter Row and Moorfoot. The Moor Quarter is in a great spot, close to other interesting areas like the Devonshire Quarter and the Cultural Industries Quarter.
At the end of The Moor, you'll see a large building called the Moorfoot Building. It used to be for the British Government, but now Sheffield City Council uses it.

Explore The Moor!
The Moor is a super popular street in Sheffield, England, where people love to shop! It's just for walking, so it's safe and easy to explore. You'll find many famous shops here, both British and international. This has made The Moor a main shopping spot in the city centre lately.
Long ago, this street was called Sheffield Moor. Then it was briefly "South Street," but they changed it back to avoid confusion. The shops here were rebuilt in the 1950s after some damage during World War II. In 1979, it became a pedestrian-only street. Now, you can even find market stalls right where cars used to drive!
The Moor stretches from Furnival Gate in the north (called Moorhead) down to Cumberland Way in the south (called Moorfoot). The big Moorfoot Building is at the very end, blocking the way to London Road.
Shopping and Fun on The Moor
You'll find lots of well-known shops on The Moor. Some big names include Debenhams, H&M, New Look, River Island, Primark, and JD Sports. There's also a local department store called Atkinsons and a Sainsbury's supermarket. Besides these big stores, there are many smaller shops and the open-air market stalls in the middle of the walking area.
Making The Moor New Again: Regeneration
Since the late 2000s, The Moor has been getting a big makeover! This is called "regeneration." The area had become a bit empty with shops closing, so the owners, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, decided to make it exciting again.
In 2011, they planned a new shopping block at the north end of the street. This new building has a huge digital screen and space for two shops and a department store.
Exciting New Places to Visit
The new Moor Market opened in November 2013. This was the first part of the big plan! It replaced the old Castle Market. A new gym also opened above the market in 2016.
The new, very large Primark store opened on The Moor in October 2016. This was part of the second phase of the regeneration.
Another exciting part of the plan includes The Light cinema and many restaurants. You can find places like Zizzi, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, and Pizza Express there. This new complex opened on April 14, 2017.
The third and final part of The Moor's big makeover opened in 2018 and 2019. It brought even more new shops and restaurants, plus another large digital screen. H&M is now a main store in this new section.
The Moor Market: A Shopper's Paradise
The Moor Market is a fantastic new market that opened in November 2013. You can find it at the corner of The Moor and Earl Street. It took the place of the old Castle Market. This new market cost about £18 million to build! It has 200 market stalls and eight shops inside.
Sheffield City Council owns the market. They hope that about 100,000 shoppers will visit every week! To help new businesses, many stalls were offered rent-free for the first six months. Then, they got a discount for the next six months. This helped many businesses start up in the new market.
