Chronology
Preceded by Beany and Cecil

The New Adventures of Beany and Cecil was a fun cartoon show. It was a new version of an older cartoon called Beany and Cecil by Bob Clampett. This updated show came out in 1988. It was made by two animation studios: DIC Animation City and Spümcø. This was actually the very first cartoon series made by Spümcø!

Only eight episodes of this show were created. But guess what? Only five of them ever aired on TV. The person who produced and directed this cartoon was John Kricfalusi. You might know him because he later created another famous cartoon called The Ren & Stimpy Show for Nickelodeon.

Meet the Characters

The show features a few main characters you'll get to know:

  • Beany is a young boy who loves adventure. He is voiced by Mark Hildreth.
  • Cecil is Beany's best friend. He is a sea serpent! Billy West provides Cecil's voice. Billy West also voiced Pinocchio in one episode.
  • Dishonest John is often the bad guy in their adventures. His voice is done by Maurice LaMarche.
  • Captain Horatio Huffenpuff is another character in their world. Jim MacGeorge is the voice behind the Captain.

Other talented voice actors also helped bring the show to life. These include Jane Mortfee, Laura Harris, and Cree Summer-Francks.

Episodes You Could Watch

Even though eight episodes were made, only five of them were shown on TV when the series first aired. Here are the episodes that were broadcast:

  • The Framed Freep - This was the first episode, shown on September 10, 1988.
  • Radio with a Bite! - This episode aired on September 17, 1988.
  • The Brotherhood of B.L.E.C.H. - You could watch this one on September 24, 1988.
  • The Bad Guy Flu! - This episode came out on October 1, 1988.
  • D.J.'s Disappearing Act - The last episode to air was on October 8, 1988.

The other three episodes, "Cecil Meets Clambo," "The Golden Menu," and "The Courtship of Cecilia," were made but never broadcast during the show's original run.
