What's New in The Oregon Trail 5th Edition?
This game builds on the design of Oregon Trail II but adds many cool new features. You'll find updated graphics, especially when you cross rivers. The game also includes animated story parts that follow a fictional family's journey.
Explore and Survive on the Trail
Just like in earlier versions, you can gather plants. This feature was also in The Oregon Trail 3rd Edition and The Oregon Trail 4th Edition. You'll need to know which plants are safe to eat! If someone in your group gets scurvy, you can still look for edible plants to help them. You can also go fishing to find food.
Follow the Montgomery Children's Story
A big new part of the game is the story of the three Montgomery children: Parker, Cassie, and Jimmy. They leave Independence, Missouri, with a guide named Captain Jed Freedman. Their goal is to find their father in Oregon. As you play and reach different places on the trail, parts of their story will happen.
Exciting Adventures and Campfire Tales
The Montgomery children's journey includes dangerous moments, like when Jimmy gets bitten by a snake. But there are also peaceful campfire scenes. During these times, Captain Jed will tell stories about real historical events. These include tales about the Donner Party, the California Gold Rush, and the Santa Fe Trail. These stories help you learn about important parts of American history.
The game's music is a single repeating loop, different from the soundtrack in Oregon Trail II. The pictures that show conversations are no longer animated in this edition.
