The Parks Mall at Arlington is a big shopping mall located in Arlington, Texas. It opened its doors in 1988. You can find it at 3811 South Cooper Street, near Interstate 20.
This mall is a popular place for shopping and fun in the area between Fort Worth and Dallas. It's known as one of the top shopping spots in the Metroplex. The Parks Mall is the third-largest mall in Tarrant County.
It has many different stores, including some really big ones called anchor stores. Some of these main stores are Dick's Sporting Goods, Dillard's, J. C. Penney, Macy's, and Nordstrom Rack.
History of The Parks Mall
How the Mall Started
The Parks Mall at Arlington first opened in 1988. It was built by two companies, Homart Development Company and Herring Marathon. When it first opened, it had four main anchor stores: J. C. Penney, Dillard's, Mervyns, and Sears.
In 1994, another big store called Foley's joined the mall as a fifth anchor. Later, in 2006, Macy's took over the Foley's store.
Mall Expansions and Changes
The mall grew even bigger in 2002. A new section was added, bringing in two more stores: Galyan's and The Great Indoors. Galyan's later became Dick's Sporting Goods, which is still there today. The Great Indoors store closed in 2003.
Over the years, some stores have left and new ones have arrived. For example, when Mervyns closed in 2006, its space was filled by several new businesses. These included a bookstore called Barnes & Noble, a popular restaurant called The Cheesecake Factory, and a clothing store called Forever 21.
Recent Changes
In 2020, the Sears store at The Parks Mall announced it would be closing. This was part of a plan to close many Sears stores across the country. Since then, the Sears store at The Parks Mall has closed its doors for good.
