The Scheme is a BBC Scotland BAFTA-award-winning documentary series. A documentary is a TV show or movie that tells a true story about real people and events. This series follows the lives of six families. They live in the Onthank and Knockinlaw areas of Kilmarnock, Scotland.
The show aimed to share what life was like in these neighborhoods. Some people felt the series did not show a full picture of life there. The people who made the show said they did not mean to show the residents in a bad way. They wanted to show their real lives.

About the Episodes
The show first planned to have four episodes. Only the first two were shown when they were first supposed to air.
Why Episodes Were Delayed
Episodes three and four were put on hold for a while. This was because of a situation involving someone in the show. To make sure everything was fair, BBC Scotland decided to show these episodes later.
When the Show Returned
The Scheme came back to TV starting with episode one on May 16, 2011. All the episodes were shown again across the United Kingdom. This happened on BBC One from June 14 to July 12, 2011.
The Fifth Episode
A fifth episode was also made and shown during this time. This special episode was filmed about a year after the others. It showed what had happened to some of the people from the first four episodes.
Similar TV Series
A show like The Scheme was also made for BBC One Northern Ireland. It was called The Estate. This series was set in the Ballysally area in Coleraine. It started in January 2012. This show also aired across the UK later in 2012.
