How to Play The Sims 4
The Sims 4 works like other games in The Sims series. You get to control your Sims' daily lives. The game is very open, meaning you can play however you like with few limits. Different areas in the game are connected on a big map. Your Sims can walk to nearby places or use their cell phones to travel anywhere.
Create Your Sims
To start playing, you need to make your Sims characters in a special tool called Create-A-Sim. Without Sims, there's no game! Create-A-Sim in The Sims 4 is easier to use than in older Sims games. You can change your Sim's body by clicking and dragging parts of their body. There are also sliders to make your Sim more muscular or heavier.
You can also pick out all your Sim's clothes. Each Sim has different outfits for different times, like an everyday outfit, a formal outfit, or swimwear. You can change your Sim's clothes anytime while playing.
Sim Personalities: Traits
Traits are like personality types for your Sims. They make each Sim unique. For example, a Sim with the "cheerful" trait will be happy more often. When you first create a Sim, you can give them three traits. You get one more trait when you pick their main goal, called an aspiration. You can earn even more traits later by completing aspirations.
Here are a few examples of traits:
- Active: Sims with this trait like to exercise a lot.
- Creative: These Sims enjoy reading, painting, and other artistic activities.
- Genius: Very smart Sims who might get upset if they haven't learned something new lately.
- Happy: These Sims are usually cheerful and positive.
Sim Goals: Aspirations
A Sim's aspiration is their biggest life goal. You can change your Sim's aspiration whenever you want. The first aspiration you choose gives your Sim a special trait. As you complete tasks for an aspiration, you'll earn another special trait.
Child and Toddler Sims have their own special aspirations. Adult and teen Sims cannot have these younger aspirations.
Playing in Live Mode
Live Mode is where you control your Sims and watch them live their lives. In this mode, one second in real life equals one minute in the game. You can control one Sim at a time in the household you've chosen.
Sim Relationships
Sims can become friends or even fall in love by talking to other Sims. How your Sims act towards others affects their relationships. Being nice helps them make friends, while being mean can lead to bad relationships.
Sim Needs
Your Sims have six basic needs you need to keep an eye on:
- Fun: Sims need to have fun!
- Energy: They need to sleep to get energy.
- Hunger: They need to eat food.
- Bladder: They need to use the toilet.
- Social: They need to talk to other Sims.
- Hygiene: They need to take showers or baths.
Sim Whims
Sims often have "whims," which are small wishes or desires. For example, your Sim might want to buy a TV, do their homework, or take a bath. Fulfilling these whims can make your Sim happier.
Sim Death
Sometimes, Sims can die if they don't take care of themselves, or if you don't help them. Sims can die from not eating enough, from accidents, or simply from old age. When a Sim dies, a character called the Grim Reaper comes to take their soul. Other Sims can sometimes beg the Grim Reaper to bring the dead Sim back to life. If it works, the Sim will return! If not, the Sim will turn into a gravestone or an urn.
Building and Buying Mode
In The Sims 4, the build mode and buy mode are combined into one. This is where you can design and decorate your Sims' houses. You can add or remove rooms, place furniture, and create the perfect home for your Sims.
