The Trashwomen were an all-girl American band that played a type of music called garage punk and surf punk. They came from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. The band was signed to Estrus Records.

History of The Trashwomen

The band started in 1991 with Tina Lucchesi, Dannielle Pimm, and Elka Zolot. They first formed just to play one special show. For this show, they planned to play cover songs by another band called The Trashmen.

Even though Elka Zolot was already a good guitar player, Tina Lucchesi (who played drums) and Dannielle Pimm (who played bass) had to learn their instruments in just four weeks before their first show!

The group quickly became popular in the San Francisco area, especially in the garage rock music scene. Their first album, Spend the Night With the Trashwomen, came out in 1993 on Estrus Records. Music critics described it as "raw" and "sleazy rock & roll."

The next year, they released a live album. Their third album, Trashwomen Vs. Deep Space, came out in 1995. These albums were also released by a German record label called Pin Up Records. Pin Up Records also released an EP (a shorter album) in 1994 called The Trashwomen Invade Chinatown.

The band decided to break up in 1997 after a tour in Japan. They felt like they had done everything they wanted to do as a band. However, they got back together in 2007 for a performance and played together until 2008.

Another band called The Wongs honored The Trashwomen in their song "Jerkin' It to the Trashwomen."

Tina Lucchesi, the drummer, has also been the lead singer for other bands like The Bobbyteens and Tina & the Total Babes. In Tina & the Total Babes, she was the only girl in the band. That band released an album in 2001. Tina has also played in several other groups, including The Glamour Pussies, The Deadly Weapons, and The Count Backwards. She even played with Dannielle Pimm and Elka Zolot in The Count Backwards.

Besides music, Tina Lucchesi runs her own record label called Lipstick Records. She also owns a hair salon and a vintage clothing store called Down at Lulu's in Oakland.

Elka Zolot, the guitarist, has a daughter named Natassia. Natassia is a rapper and makes music videos. She is known by her stage name, Kreayshawn.
