The Treehouse is a fun computer game that helps you learn! It's an educational game where you use your mouse to click on things. It first came out in 1991 for computers like MS-DOS and later for Macintosh, FM Towns, and Windows computers.
After their popular game The Playroom did really well, a company called Broderbund made The Treehouse. This new game had even more activities and let players explore more freely. Most copies were sold in stores that focused on school supplies, not just regular computer stores. The game even came with a cassette tape for singing along! It was updated and released again in 1996 for newer Windows computers. While the activities stayed mostly the same, the characters and how the game looked changed a bit in the Windows version.
Game Art and Look
The pictures and moving characters for the 1991 version of The Treehouse were created by an artist named Fred Dianda. He said he really enjoyed learning about different musical instruments for the game. The backgrounds in the game used a limited number of colors, but they were cleverly put together to make it look like there were many more colors.
How to Play the Game
The main characters in The Treehouse are two friendly opossums. Sometimes they want to play, and sometimes they just want to take a nap! Inside the game, you can do many cool things. You can create your own music, solve a music maze, or explore a picture scene where objects react when you click them. There's also a puppet show and a game similar to Monopoly that helps you learn about counting and money.
What You Can Learn
The Treehouse was made for kids a little older than those who played The Playroom. The game helps you learn about many different subjects, including math, language, music, art, and science. It encourages you to discover new places, learn interesting facts, and use your imagination and creative skills.
