In 2013, he became the champion of South America. He set a new record for the region by jumping 5.83 meters outdoors. Two years later, in 2015, he broke his own record. He jumped 5.92 meters in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Winning Olympic Gold in Rio 2016
The 2016 Summer Olympics were held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This was a very special event for Thiago. He competed in the men's pole vault final. He faced a tough competitor, Renaud Lavillenie from France. Lavillenie was the world record holder and had won gold at the previous Olympics.
In the final, Thiago and Lavillenie were the only two athletes left. They both cleared 5.93 meters. Lavillenie then cleared 5.98 meters on his first try. Thiago decided to skip 5.98 meters. He aimed for an even higher jump of 6.03 meters. On his second attempt, he successfully cleared 6.03 meters! This set a new Olympic Record. Lavillenie tried to beat this height but could not. Thiago Braz won the gold medal, jumping 10 centimeters higher than his previous best.
Bronze Medal at Tokyo 2020 Olympics
After his big win in 2016, Thiago faced some challenges. He didn't win medals at World Championships or Pan American Games for a few years. However, he still had a chance to win a medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
He qualified easily for the final. In the final, he cleared 5.87 meters on his first try. This was a very important jump. It helped him secure a spot on the podium. In the end, Thiago won the bronze medal. This was his second Olympic medal in a row, which is a rare achievement for a Brazilian athlete. The gold medal went to Armand Duplantis from Sweden, and the silver to Chris Nilsen from the USA.
